I have thought about making a small modification to the LGPL, but that is not allowed because the LGPL text itself is (c). That of course makes sense, it would ve very annoying if you got a piece of code with what seems to be an LGPL license but it turns out to be subtly different. Another approach would be to add a statement to the comment in the code that refers to the LGPL. This fails because (for the jal-ethernet project) SourceForge was to be used, which requires a recognised free license. So I ended up with zlib, which is OK except that it does not force modifications to be made public.
