GPL requires that you provide the sources of code you link with the GPL-ed code. LGPL relaxes this to excempt dynamically linked stuff. For embedded things this means that if you use GPL-ed code (in a product that you sell or give away) you are obliged to provide the source. In most cases this is not something you want to do, but even if you want to do it: imagine a customer buying a valentine card with a uC that plays some lovely tune. If the uC code contains GPLed code that customer must get the source to it, and a copy of the GPL/LGPL text.
