In a similar situation I took a round-pin socket, put the ZIF on top of it (indeed, you can not insert the flat pins of the ZIF) and soldered the ZIF pins into the cups of the socket. Put a dual-wipe in the PCB and you will be able to take out your expensive ZIF if you want to use it for another purpose.
