One of the reason my boss wanted me to move closer was that I seemed to be the best candidate for the position and I was 90 minute commute each way. He lives/works far away from any real source of talent and knowing that he will have a high turnover rate with no real source of replacement workers will be it's own satisfaction. For MANY years it has been a 2 to 3 man operation and he is looking to expand into a 12 man shop. His only previous employees is one guy who was hired when he was still a sophmore in high school who has been there for 18? years, his daughter in law who has no previous experience in the industry and his kids. I am one of his first employees with significant previous experience but I'm sure I won't be the last out the door. However, my e-mail was not to encite a riot against my latest employer but to point out to that not only do employers use interviews to determine if they want me to work for them but to also to use the interview to determine if the company is one that I would actually want to work for.
