dont think that works any more theres no physical connection between dialer and reciever and i dont imagne the phone companies will be shipping data over their lines when they dont have to ;-> the current ones i believe pick the line up and then listen for the beep depending on the software they can answer, start playing an answering machine message then click over if they pick up a beep others will monitor the line when its picked up normally (they detect the ringing has ended and then pick up) so if a person answers it will listen in on their conversation and if its a fax it'll answer, (the person presumablly hangs up at this point) i tried to implement a system like this where i worked with standard modems and the like, there was no free sw that was up to acting as answering machine, fax machine and auto fax pickup. > -----Original Message----- > From: pic microcontroller discussion list > [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Alan B.
