They are easy to use. You just dial in the discharge voltage and whether it's an air discharge or contact discharge, point the tip at your unit under test and pull the trigger. The units also come with a manual that has a tutorial and setup procedures for running the various IEC, et. al. tests. I haven't used any of the newest models recently but they look like they may be even easier to use than the models I've used in the past.
