One thing you might want to check is all the setserial options for that port (not many of them). One of the great features of the Wisp628 is the serial passthrough which works great for lower baudrates. Check out the help on XWisp to figure out how to use that, it worked well for me when I was only using one serial port. Also, maybe just try lowering the baud rate on the serial transmission.
