A search for "IR LED" on Digi-Key only returned 2 IR leds, both of which
had fiber optic outputs. Perhaps a more careful search would have found
something more, but my Radio Shack catalog (2001) shows a

"High-output Infrared LED" in T 1 3/4 size, 20mA, 1.3 VDC, 940nm
wavelength, as RS part number 276-143, $1.69
