A *GOOD* lead-less solder joint has a duller less shiny surface than a lead solder joint. The new rule is "a shiny joint used to be a good joint - nowadays it's harder to tell" :-) There was a long discussion on lead-less solder on this list a few months ago. some good technical comments were made there - it is probably worth searching the archives.
