A couple of months ago, I did a comparison of the tradeoff between using the extended instruction set, and losing all of your access RAM, which was the side effect of enabling extended mode on the particular PIC I was using. In this case, using non-banked access RAM saved more code space than using the extended instructions as generated by C18. -- John W.
