FWIW - I was in Phoenix last year in early July and it was about the hottest
place I've ever been outside Death Valley - and that was the hottest
recorded summer ever world-wide. This includes France in the period that
20,000 more people than usual died due to the heat. And everywhere we went
in Europe they said that the particular day we visited was the hottest day
they knew of locally.

Phoenix was so hot that standing next to a running car was a hazard - you
literally burnt you feet from the exhaust heat flowing out from under the
car. (Usually this just feels warm - at about 45 C ambient it causes pain).

Maybe Phoenixians see things differently :-)
