The key is to act responsibly. If we always asks the question, what if, then maybe we would be better drivers, fathers, mothers, etc. Driving responsibly doesn't necessarily mean driving the speed limit either. If the traffic is moving 75 in a 55 zone, it is irresponsible to drive 55, maybe 70, but not 55. Likewise, driving 75 when everyone is doing 55 is irresponsible. If everyone treated everything they did responsibly, then we would have no need for speed limits, gun laws, seatbelt laws, abortion law, etc. But, alas, we are all in a hurry, angry, individualists, looking for action, etc. and often don't think, "what if?". We have a right to do as we please (to the extent of the law now) as long as it DOES NOT infringe upon the rights of others! That is where the real problem exist. Unless of course you live under a government that only wishes to control it's people, then you have no rights. About 20 years ago, a friend lost his little girl, about 5, to a drunk driver. The drunk driver, then about 17?, was in prison for about 11 years. For one act of stupidity, he gave away 11 years to the state and took the life of a very bright child. I am not sure the mother ever really recovered either. I only hope that we all can be more responsible in the future. I'll start first. For me this line of reasoning isn't logical. It is thinking that things done should be for the good of the whole (society) as opposed to everything for the good of the individual. I think societal harmony lies in a careful balance between the two. If I think to myself, is this good for me AND the people around me, then I come up with better decisions. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
