When you plug the ICD2 into a USB port, you get two drivers appearing in the device manager one after the other. The first is the "Microchip MPLAB ICD2 Firmware Loader", this unloads after a couple of seconds to be replaced with "Microchip MPLAB ICD2 Firmware Client". It was my understanding that the first driver actually downloads the operating firmware into the Cypress part.
