If you need to control a device that you would otherwise connect to a
PC parallel port from across a LAN, you might look at Digio from
www.kadtronix.com. You can have a PC on a LAN with many different
digital devices connected to it via the USB port (U4x1-type devices)
and control the devices from another PC on the LAN.
