Just the same answer too... : ) I've been doing this in products here for +/- 4 years and find it working very well. There's an economic trade-off though, PCF8574s aren't the cheapest solution around if you just want to send data to an LCD, but if your product is low volume high-added-value (as here) then it doesn't matter. The benefit is that you can come anytime in the future and add the likes of RTCs, temperature inputs, LED pilots, switch interfaces yaydya or whatever your (paying 8p) ) customers dream up for you. best regards, John email from the desk of John Sanderson.
