CuCl etching is documented here: http://users.rcn.com/rexa/Projects/CuCl_ech.html You can cheat and make your own initial CuCl by disolving copper scrap in an aereated mixture of Hydrochloric acid (hardware store item) and hydrogen peroxide (drug store item.) Been there, done that, it was fun, and it seems to work ok as etchant... It seems to make copper oxychloride too, which implies that you might be able to start with copper oxychloride (which is pretty commonly available from pyrotechnics chemical dealers, and not hazmat...) Etchants requiring aereation are a bit of a pain; the atomized bits float all over the room, causing all sorts of corrosion in things that aren't supposed to corrode (stainless steel sinks, for instance.)
