Better to find some different beads, probably. You'll have better luck with things labeled as miniature torroids. Too many "beads" have little or no I.D... Or maybe something else ferrite-ish. I had luck with a number of shapes, including those little bobbins power inductors are wound on. Best off-the-shelf performance was from the filter transformers (of several types) in switching power supplies; they already have the two equal-turns windings. the inductance is quite high compared to Clive's circuit, but not high enough to make any flicker apparent...
