THANKS Tom! Great article! I went ahead and bought a Linksys BEFSR81 yesterday for $100. It has QOS prioritizing. I'm already using the BEFSR41, so the transition is pretty easy. I'll save this article, though. I'm using http://www.sipphone.com for VoIP (it's FREE). Other than the QOS problem I've mentioned, it works well. I should have the new router in tonight. I'll see how it works then. sipphone.com offers a couple other interesting services. First, they have "virtual numbers" that give you a POTS number for something like $3 per month so you can receive calls from non sip users. They also offer "sip minutes" that let you place calls worldwide to POTS phones. Typical rates are between 5 and 10 cents a minute. In addition, http://www.ipkall.com/ gives you a POTS number to receive calls (and forward them to a sip phone) for free. Interesting technology. As for me, I know *nothing* of this first hand. YMMV of course. > > Good luck! > Tom > >>On Thu, 27 May 2004 08:04:38 -0700, Harold Hallikainen wrote: >>> Pretty off topic, but this is a smart group...
