CAN is used for a lot of the North American companies. If you are looking to
talk to the ECU, information is pretty hard to come by - especially if you
are looking to modify ECU parameters. Nissan for example uses the Consult
protocol, which isn't released publically. OBD-I/II will help you obtain
readings, but you won't be able to change any parameters since it's used for
diagnostics.
