Have a peek at the dit-efi.org website, it's mostly GM stuff but you might find
some releveant information there.

I would start by looking for info on ALDL, and OBDI and ODBII (on board
diagnostic) interfaces.

There's some SAE standards and maybe some IEEE as well but I don't any
specifics.
