-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 source= http://www.piclist.com/piclist/2004/05/27/023500a.txt? I have just taken delivery of the LM860A product. This is my first ever new computer, as I have had a policy of assembling systems from 5 year old components because of cost and experience base considerations. http://www.aeste.net/products/gaea.html#Gaea My response after exploring it the first day was "I'm quite smug." I have connected an external IDE drive (with the case open) and run Win98 and Win NT 4.0 with success. I played a session of "Alpha Centauri" under Win98 as sort of a benchmark test, and it is the nicest environment I have for the game. I have an existing MS-DOS 6.22 network boot floppy that I modified with the appropriate LAN drivers, and booted the system from a USB floppy, then initiated a Win NT 4.0 network install. All the files and startup environment copied ok, but I'm about 3 Mb short on CompactFlash storage space to complete the install. http://www.jump.net/~vima/LM860A/lm860a_01.jpg I have not created a custom installation script to obtain a totally successful NT 4.0 install. I probably won't either, as NT 4.0 is old, and this is just a capability test. However, if someone is fluent in tuning the scripts and has some interest, I'd be willing to email privately and see where it goes. I added an IDE CD-ROM, and booted up the May 2003 BSD install CD. The installation environment boots ok, and sees the compact flash drive ok. As in the case with Win NT 4.0, I don't intend to use BSD on this system and won't continue this test on my own initiative. However, if someone is well experienced with BSD I am willing to work with them and explore the install more. I have a desire to set up a PXE boot environment to test this capability, and my preference is to use freeware that runs under Win 4.0 Workstation or Win 2000 Workstation environments. In particular, I am missing the proxyDHCP software that handles port 4011. Their LM862A model has 3 LAN connectors, and might be suitable as a custom router or control computer in a difficult to access location. - --- Aubrey McIntosh http://www.piclist.com/member/AM-vima-Y84 PIC/PICList FAQ: http://www.piclist.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use iQA/AwUBQLX7FwKlSw8yssF7EQJtNgCg6tpUWRimQn6wAovR3lsFN0Gxk58AoNQo XGBlvHW/nKRkQZ5du5Bpl3Iz =kW62 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics (like ads or off topics) for you.
