No > Here's a simple and quick way of testing transistors and > diodes that I have been using for years: > http://www.pic101.com/transistor_testing.htm Many many years ago I had a very simple setup for tests: a 6.3 Volt trafo (that particular voltage alone says a lot), two light bulbs with series diodes, these two combo's places anti-parallel, connected to one line of the trafo and one test lead, other trafo line is the other test lead. The two test leads can be used directly to identify shorts, diodes, and the diodes that are inside a transistor. With a little more effort the C and E of a transistor can be distinguished: put the test leads on the C/E (the base is identified first via the diodes). Now use your finger as a resitor between B and one of C/E, and then the other. The one that causes the one light to shine brightest is C.
