I've never used them myself but have always been fascinated by them. The
application notes make it sound fairly straightforward to use. Maybe
someone that has used them can chime in with their experience with them.

I believe the older rfPIC12C509 windowed devices are DIP. They were
about $10 a pop a few months ago. The newer flash devices are SMD only.

I suppose I could use rfPICs for my project, are they hard to use?  I
wasn't sure if they made thru hole versions of the chips so I never
bothered ordering samples.  I refuse to use SMT parts for prototyping,
too much pain in the butt.

With these rfPICs, is it just a matter of hooking up an antenna or is
there all kinds of external circuitry required?  In any case, I will go
to microchip.com and read over some datasheets.
