FWIW, i have found Win95 to be much faster than Win98 on the elder computers i have reconfigured. I know Microsofts newer programs do not work on their own OS, but there are better altenrnatives anyway, and you are less in need of a virus scanner eating resources :) (but it is good to make backups and scan the drive once in a while anyway on windows...) Using eficcient programs even a 486>80MHz or Pentium 75Mhz can do job, like: Internet browser and mail: Opera (very eficcient and almost no security problem) (if you have a real old computer like 486-33 try to find old Opera 3.62 (do not habe mail and not newer internet standards) Also works on several other OS. Office suite: OpenOffice (but not too demanding tasks like mouniting photos in documents, writing text is no problem) OOo also works on Other OS, and can open and save MS formats, can export to pdf and html. Different from MSoffice OOo includes a decent drawing program. Picture handling: Irfanview Tips: o Use the later Win95 variant, the elder do not support large HD o Put in as much RAM you can, especially for Office programs. o Defragment free space, and create a permanent swap file I have done that to pals and relatives computers, that they got free from the company, and they say it is at least twice as fast with the new configuration :) /Morgan -- Morgan Olsson, Kivik, Sweden -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
