I use an Open Source package called Bacula (http://www.bacula.org/). If you've got a *nix machine available, I think it's a great application, with many of the features only found in a commercial backup program. It can back up to tape or to a file. You can do full, differential, and incremental backups. The main system runs on the *nix host, and there are client programs for each of the boxes you'd like to back up. There's a Windows client that runs as a service. It just sits there until it's told to start collecting changed files. The install and config is a bit kludgy(sp?) right now, but it's not as bad as other installations I've seen. There isn't any GUI, but the team is working on UIs for the restore process. I've been running it for about six months now with great results. It backs up my main PC, my work laptop through a Samba-mounted drive, and both my kids machines. I even had to do a restore or two to get back a file from several days earlier. If you look at it, let me know if you need help installing. Just my $0.02 Good luck, -Frank > > Well I do something similar.
