Unless you specifically NEED rechargables, you may be best served with
8 cells worth of AA (or larger) alkalines...  Your total capacity
requires are pretty low; another alternative would be a smallish gell
cell, ala:

that might be difficult to find locally, and shipping would shoot your
price up.  You MIGHT find a local donner; this sort of battery is
changed regularly in things like emergency lighting and alarm systems,
and the old (not really dead yet) cells need to be disposed of...
