For instance, the stannous flouride above is the stuff they put in toothpaste (which is somewhat controversial in certain circles, but no one claims it's likely to be immediately fatal...) It's not the immediate toxicity of lead compounds that is so worrisome, but their ability to accumulate in the body and cause more subtle effects (more subtle than death) even when consumed in very tiny amounts...
