> Well, for instance, why would neutered ferrets be a problem? > > BillW Like Russell said, some people just don't care. Neither do they neuter cats and dogs, who also kill more than their fair share of (flightless) indigenous wildlife that have no natural defenses. And you could start a whole new debate about neutering, banning or restricting pitbulls, but please don't ;-) What about other banned imports ? Hamsters ? Snakes ? How do you neuter a snake ? (very carefully and patiently one presumes) It's not such a bad idea to try and eliminate or at least exclude any non-indigenous species from an island country like NZ or Australia Back in the days when men were men and sheep were nervous it was common to import a species for sport - foxes, rabbits, goats, deer. And possums. Now they're endemic and nobody hunts them much anymore, so they quietly munch their way through the flora and fauna largely unmolested What do you do if your sugar cane has bugs ? Hmm, hey neat idea, import a toad that eats cane bugs. Except it doesn't and turns out to be lethal to any native predator. Or was introducing a moth to eat rampant cactus such a clever thing ?
