If indeed it is not suitable in certain situations to use the gun in the 90 degree mode, the operator has the choice not to use it in that mode. I am sure most trained SWAT members would know when it would be an advantage. It is a tool. Like all tools, the user has to know the tool and how to use it. It isn't hard to think of some situation for most tools where it won't perform well, that doesn't mean it isn't useful for the others. This one has the advantage that it can be quickly switched to a more or less conventional form. Edison may have been many things, but not a moron.
