Yes, except for the tendency to wander off, I'd be inclined to recommend multiple cheap meters over a single fancy one. I've got a radio shack analog, two <$10 DMMs, and the analog meters in my benchtop power supply. I can treat them in ways I've be afraid to treat something that cost several hundred dollars. Sure, they're not as robust. But it doesn't matter... (I am lusting after something with f,L,C and rs232, though...)
