I would like to thank everyone for taking their time and answer. The MAX323 is going to work wonderfully for me (I have downloaded the datasheet). About the pull-up resistors, can I use 100K for low power consumption or should 10K be fine? -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU] On Behalf Of Joe Jansen/TECH/HQ/KEMET/US Sent: Thursday, April 22, 2004 5:35 PM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [PICLIST] [EE:] 2 RS232 connections on 1 RS232 port I did this recently, using 2 MAX323 chips to isolate the 2 ports. The MAX323's went between the pic and the MAX232. This also gave me the advantage of being able to select which port I wanted to listen to at any given time, and sending was isolated as well. Remember to use pullup resistors between the 323 chips and the pic! --Joe Jansen -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics (like ads or off topics) for you.
