Try going to a hamfest and picking up a good used three-output lab supply with meters and current limiting. I picked one up for $5. Sometimes you can get some real bargains on used stuff. With the summer season upon us in the US, there's a hamfest (electronics flea market) almost every weekend within driving distance. Who knows what else you can pick up.
