I have bought 2 digital cordless telephones from ebay from differnt sellers (same model). Neither had audio - the fault was a 1uF SMT tantalum that had departed its pads. Component leads /used/ to be wrapped or clinched before soldering - i.e a mechanically sound joint first. You still had poor joints eventually e.g. on hot wirewound resistors. For really bad locations (e.g. down a drill hole) some of our customers pot the whole board in epoxy.
