Why go through all the trouble and all the unknowns.. just pop in a MAX232 =

similar chip, a couple of caps.. and you're off.. in fact, if you're doing=

this regularly, you might even consider making a RS232 to TTL level convert=

using a MAX232.. Just my 2 cents...
