I used "Eagle", which I believe is fairly well used by people on
here. It's free for hobby use (with some limitations on the
circuit, number of layers etc) and seems rather nice for my
purposes at least. It runs on Linux too which is great for me. You

I guess that this is mainly due to the size that I exported the
image to when I created it as a .png file. If I print from within
Eagle itself, it comes out just fine, fitting nicely on one page.
When exporting to .png you have to specify what dpi you want to use
to control the size, I should have perhaps picked something a
little lower so sorry about that.
