I think it's great; eBay is one of the few companies I've seen continually trying new things, most of which seem to be well thought-out and pretty good ideas. I've never seen an automatic "sniping feature" at eBay itself, but I don't doubt that one or more of the "auction add-on" sites provides such a capability...
