I've got a picstart plus at home, which I use with picp to program from linux. I want to be able to use various 18f's which are not supported by it, so I need an upgrade. Three questions: 1) Does the new Microchip upgrade kit (the one that doesn't use a 17c44) work with picp? 2) I know the new kit is upgradable in the programmer, is that supported by any of the linux picstart plus programs? 3) Finally, for significantly less than the cost of the upgrade, I can buy a PG2C from Olimex and use picprog1.6 for Linux. I've always been happy with the picstart as a development programmer, would these others be as reliable, or do they need constant fiddling to get them running? Is there any reason to keep the picstart, given that I don't use MPLAB and don't expect to want to in future?
