This may be a different direction, but Kronos Robotics sells a chip (a PIC 18Fx52 renamed into the "Dios" chip) that runs a Basic varient that you can use assembler code with. The compiler supports assembly code directly, so you can mix Basic and assembly. All you need is a serial converter and cable to run.
