In July & August my wife and I and a friend and (part of the way) my daughter did a world tour where we visited 24 countries. I took 44,000 photos. Many would interest nobody but me. Some are interesting and some rather good (if I do say so). I still have not got many of these on a website for various reasons. I decided to start sending an occasional semi-randomly chosen photo by email to those of my friends who may be interested in seeing them. The message below is the first one but without the pictures (about 170 kB in this case). If anyone here is interested I am happy to add them to the list - and take them off again if it proves not worth the bandwidth. Feel free to pass this on to anyone else who may be silly enough to be interested. Read text below. To get a sample only, reply to this email FROM YOUR OWN ADDRESS (not to list) with SAMPLE at the top of the message. To join the list reply with YES at the top of the reply. You will be taken off the list on request. Your email address will not be given to anyone else. First sample - TOTAL EMAIL SIZE WAS ABOUT 175 KB Expected size probably usually 100 to 200 KB Pictures are 5 MP photos reduced down from 1 MB each. Russell McMahon __________________________________ TEXT OF MESSAGE SENT TO MY FRIENDS: This email is being sent to a large number of people. This is an "OPT IN" idea. If you want to receive any more of these you need to ask. (Just reply to this email with "Yes" or similar. ) If I don't hear from you you (probably) won't see any more of these. No need to say no. If you ask to see them and after a while decide you want to stop, you just need to say and I will take you off the list. While we were away I took many many many photos in 24 countries. Some are interesting or unusual or strange or exciting or fun or just plain weird. I decided to occasionally take a randomly selected trip photo and send it to people who were interested in seeing them. (While I could have chosen my own favourites, this way the choices are liable to be more varied and unexpected). . The photos (all 44,000 of them!) are stored in per day folders. I leaped into a semirandomly chosen day folder and stepped along files and randomlyish chose a location and THEN (cheating) stepped through pictures to the first interesting one. This is it. Note - this is NOT representative of the rest. some will be scenic or of food, people, buildings, vehicles, roads, .... Variety guaranteed. Motor on a stick. [PICTURE REMOVED] Quite unlike anything I have seen in New Zeakand (or any of the other 23 countries we visited ) Motor of a boat which we hired for a trip on the Bangkok canals. Nothing like thus in NZ as far as I know. There were many boats like this. Motor balances on a gimbal with a lonnnnnnnng drive shaft out back left and steersman moves it round with steering pile at right. Really goes!!! In this non-random add on you can see one in action. [PICTURE REMOVED] Boat in action on canal with roostertail Another (not really randomly chosen) Bangkok site. [PICTURE REMOVED] Pretty Thai temple scene with towers etc. ______________________________ -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics (like ads or off topics) for you.
