But to answer your question, you don't have the popt library installed. You can easily get a copy from rpmfind.net or perhaps it came with you linux CD's. Also, to configure gpsim for gtk-2 you'll need to specify configure options like so: ./configure --enable-gtk2 Since you're new to Linux and are interested in PICs, I'd strongly recommend joining the GNUPIC mailing list.
