What are the chips? I can't think of how you can do something SPI-like without a chip select, as the chip will not know who you're talking to or where the end of a command is. Is it, perhaps, I2C? If so, I2C includes address bits in the bitstream. The chips are either pre-programmed with an address or have pins that let you set an address.
