You might want to look at the Kingbright super flux line. Mouser has the L7676CSEC/H for about .57 in thousands. It has a 70 degree viewing angle and about 350 mcd @ 20mA. BTW, what type of batteries are you going to be using? How long are these LEDs going to be on at a crack?
