I use the 12F675 for a product we manufacture. We solder the chip on empty, but along the edge of the board there are "touch points" where spring loaded pins attached to the ICSP make contact. We've programmed thousands this way. Our board is only an inch square, there is no header, and the process has proven to be very effective. Let me know if you would like more specific information.
