My name is xavier MONTAGNE and I'm the author of PICos18.
This real time kernel is totaly free then you can download it and use it =
without paying anything.=20

The main differences with this other RTOS :
- SALVO : it's a cooperative kernel so you have to be really carrefull =
about the way you are coding your application because the developer is =
in charge of the task switching (case of cooperative kernel)
- FreeRTOS : based on a POSIX based standart or something similar. I =
don't thing it's very suitable to a PIC18 chip...
- PICOS18 : based on OSEK standart and maintained by a private company =
(www.pragmatec.net) so that you can be sure the kernel will be improved =
according to the OSEK specification. Last but not least the kernel is =
protected by the GPL license then it will be always available on a web =
site for free...

We are working with Microchip Europe to promote PICos18 and at this =
moment we are thinking about porting PICos18 to the Microchip DSP.

Also some product will be available very soon in Europe with the kernel =
and additionnal layers. We hope to be able to promote the free PICos18 =
kernel and our commercial hardware and software solutions in US in the =
next few months.
