That makes sense, a transformer will only work with alternating (or =
pulsing)
current. I guess I'll go pick up some opto couplers before starting to =
play
around with the triacs ;-).

Yes, that's fine. If it's just for switching on/off (not dimming) you =
should
just be able to leave the pin high when you want the load on and low =
when
you want it off. This is assuming you are driving the TRIAC via an opto =

directly. If you intend to use a pulse transformer, this won't work.
