They look great and simple to use. Okay....gotcha. The qprox does seem like a good part for this, but if yo= u=20 want to consider IR still, check out Omron's EE-SY190. It's an integrate= d=20 LED/phototransistor setup at a right-angle for this purpose. I have one = here=20 that I intend to use to detect rain on a windshield.
