I've used Agilent (formerly HP) SO-8 parts in an isolated RS-232/RS-485 interface. I also seem to recall Toshiba and Sharp had SO-8 parts also. The Agilent parts I used were HCPL0730s (I'm guessing way overkill in speed and gain, therefore $$$) for your application. A quick web search on the reveals Fairchild has a line of SO-8 parts, probably available at Digikey. http://www.fairchildsemi.com/collateral/opto/sop_optocouplers.pdf (The HMA12x series look like they would work) I'd check Agilent's web site also, I know they have an extensive line of SO-8 parts too. Toshiba has 4 pin SOP package parts: http://www.toshiba.com/taec/cgi-bin/display.cgi?table=Category&CategoryID=7073 Sharp also has some 4 pin SOP parts: http://www.sharpsma.com/sma/Products/Prod-frame/opto.htm?main=http://www.sharpsma.com/sma/products/opto/photocoupler.htm Those pages should get you started in the right direction, I hope.
