I think it will meet your needs, but it is pricey! About $70 I think. It is the textbook for a course taught at Georgia Tech University. The SASM program is a preprocessor that formats and also sets up some control structures (If...Then...,Repeat until, etc,...) that are fed directly to MPLAB for assembly. I hope to investigate the preprocessor Idea further in the future. Complete schematics and code are provided on the website. The hardware is expensive but the quality and service is high. Loading the bootloader to the 18F452 is not straight forward. Apparently it needs an ICD2 to accomplish that objective. I don't understand that and it continues to elude my grasp. I corrupted mine somehow and was unable to restore it. I simply ordered a couple more from their supplier and restored the operation. I was programming with the Microchip C demo and probably tried to write to a string constant when the corruption occurred. The entire kit of parts is available from Digikey for about $55, the edition of the book I bought included a PC board. Since I have been building all my life, I felt assembling the kit would be drudgery to me. Last I heard, Dr. Peatman is loading the bootloader to your chip for free, details on the web site. This setup works so good That I would like to acquire something like it for a 16F628. Program & try cycles are very fast. It is a good fit for me because its potential exceeds my grasp. I reported the corruption to the webmaster and received an email from Dr Peatman. I feel that he would consider an imitator to be flattering.
