When I had to fix my dishwasher a few years ago.....the soap dispenser
wouldnt open all the time, I looked up the part and replaced it. But of
course.....it wasnt called a solenoid (the name escapes me now) and once I
replaced it and was assured the part was defective I opened it up.  It was
based on heating up a waxy substance that once liquid would release the
lever....then when it cooled down, it would allow the plunger to return.
Kinda interesting.....
