Hi Alan, I'm not passing judgment Alan, but for me, that would be unethical. I would not feel right using it past the time period Microchip wanted me to -- honor system/golden rule. However, I feel it would be in Microchip's best business interests to offer free C PICmicro compilers. They have the core business muscle in which they could subsidize something like this.
